Leisure: Olympic White Water Canoe Centre

Olympic White Water Canoe Centre, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire

Indigo is advising the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) and the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority (LVRPA) on all planning matters in connection with a white water canoe centre in Waltham Cross.

The centre will provide the venue for the slalom canoe and kayak events for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The world class facility will provide two pumped water courses, a lake and a pavilion building. After the Olympic Games, the site will be managed by the LVRPA and provide a regional legacy facility, suitable for both sport and recreation use.

The scheme involves complex planning issues due to its Green Belt location and proximity to nature conservation sites and existing watercourses.

Indigo project managed the planning application and the Environmental Impact Assessment and worked closely with the clients and a large specialist consultant team. The comprehensive consultation process included technical meetings with key stakeholders (including Broxbourne Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council, the Environment Agency, Natural England and CABE), as well as a series of public meetings and exhibitions for local residents.
