Planning permission was secured in November 2008 for a new supermarket together with the re-provision of an existing Social club. The site extended to approximately 2.26 hectares and was home to the Mildenhall Social Club and bowling green. The proposal was for a new Sainsbury's Supermarket of just over 4,000m2 of floorspace together with 207 car park spaces and servicing. The development was considered to regenerate the town centre and provide an anchor for the centre and claw back expenditure that was leaking elsewhere.
A number of issues were addressed which included the scale of development on the site, employment, and highway issues. Indigo worked closely with the Social Club's committee to provide a building that provided improved facilities from the current existing club. The relocation of the Social Club and bowling green gained support from Sport England
