Mixed-use: Kingston Power Station
Former Kingston Power Station site, Kingston upon Thames
Indigo secured planning permission for NHP Developments for the redevelopment of the Kingston power station site for over 350 residential units and a 180 bed hotel with conference and banqueting facilities. The site is adjacent to the River Thames and is the final piece of the jigsaw in the regeneration of this part of Kingston town centre.
This project raised a number of planning issues in respect to design and its sensitive location within the Thames Policy Area and a Strategic Area of Special Character and being adjacent to a conservation area, Metropolitan Open Land and Green Corridor.
This project involved an extensive public consultation event including workshops, exhibitions and presentations to key stakeholders, such as the GLA. The provision of affordable housing was also a key issue due to the viability issues the site raised as a result of the need to encase an EDF electricity substation within the development. Indigo was responsible for project managing the planning process, including leading negotiations and managing the Environmental Statement.
