Residential: Furze Street

Furze Street

Indigo were instructed by the Luminus Group to review development options on a brown field site in fragmented ownership in Poplar. This resulted in the submission of and subsequent approval of a planning application which secured permission for 139 residential units, over 3,000 sq.ft of commercial floorspace and a community use in a series of buildings ranging in height from 2 to 6 storeys and exceeded the densities set out in the London Plan. The proportion of affordable housing provided within the scheme being 35% was considered by the Borough Council as acceptable.

Indigo undertook a number of pre-application meetings with various departments within London Borough Tower Hamlets and local residents before finalising the design for formal submission to the Council. The site together with the wider area was the subject of a Development Brief prepared by the Council however we were mindful of a scheme at the southern end of Furze Street which was dismissed at appeal.
